Glasgow Rangers ace James Tavernier is not in the running and some Ibrox faithful really cannot understand why.

Glasgow Rangers duo Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent are up against Celtic pair James Forrest and Callum McGregor for the PFA Scotland Premiership Player of the Year award.

Morelos is the top scorer in the Scottish Premiership this season with 17 goals and eight assists in 27 games for the Ibrox club, according to Transfermarkt.

His on-loan club teammate Kent, on the books at Steven Gerrard’s former club Liverpool, has six goals and six assists in 23 top-flight games this season.

In 30 games for Celtic this term, Forrest has 11 goals and 12 assists, while McGregor has three goals and 10 assists.

Some Rangers fans took to Twitter after the news came out and asked why James Tavernier was not included:

Tavernier has made 33 Premiership appearances this season, scoring 11 goals and registering 14 assists, according to Transfermarkt.

The PFA Scotland Awards began in 1978 and Rangers striker Derek Johnstone was the first to win the main Player of the Year Award (official Rangers website).

Ally McCoist, Andy Goram, Mark Hateley, Brian Laudrup, Paul Gascoigne, Lorenzo Amoruso, Barry Ferguson, Fernando Ricksen and Steven Davis have since gone on to win the accolade.
