A number of Glasgow Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Steven Gerrard admitting that Glenn Middleton is likely to leave Ibrox on loan and have a spell in the Netherlands.

The 19-year-old winger was brought to Ibrox by Graeme Murty in January 2018, and the Norwich City academy graduate has gone on to score five goals in 27 appearances for the Light Blues.

Gerrard gave Middleton his competitive debut in the 2-0 Europa League win over FK Shkupi in July 2018, and he scored his first Rangers goal two months later in a 4-0 win over Dundee.

With increased competition at Ibrox, however, Gerrard told a press conference on Friday that the Scotland Under-21s ace is set for a switch to Holland, with NAC Breda believed to be the club in question (Daily Record).

“Glenn Middleton is very close to going on loan in Holland,” said Gerrard. “Fair play to him going for such a challenge. That will be good for his development, playing for a team challenging in front of passionate fans.”

Here is how some of the Bears reacted on social media to the news that the Rangers teenager looks set for a spell away from Ibrox this term:

With Middleton signing a new Rangers contract just last October which ties him to the Ibrox outfit until the summer of 2023 (official Rangers website), it looks as though the Gers contingent sees him as a potential star of the future, and as such the coaches and Bears alike are sure to keep a close eye on his development in the Netherlands.

Glenn Middleton of Rangers is seen during the Betfred Scottish League Cup Quarter Final match between Rangers and Ayr United on September 26, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.
