Glasgow Rangers made the announcement, which sees the women’s team fully integrated into the Ibrox setup, on Monday.
A number of Glasgow Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to praise the Ibrox club’s decision to fully integrate the women’s side into the club’s football department.
The Women’s and Girls’ Programme will receive increased investment after the changes that were proposed at the club’s AGM in November have now been put in place.
The first team will now play all their home matches at the Hummel Training Centre, and increased investment means Rangers can issue professional contracts to some current playing staff and recruit pros from elsewhere.
In addition, Gregory Vignal, the former Gers full-back who has been working as a youth coach at Ibrox, has been named the new manager of the women’s first team, their season getting under way in August.
The Light Blues will be hoping that the new changes will see them develop into bona fide challengers for the SWPL1 title, with Glasgow City and Hibernian currently the top sides in the league (Soccerway).
