A number of Rangers fans have suggested on Twitter that the Gers should seriously consider taking a chance by signing Lawrence Shankland after his remarkable season continued on Friday night.

Shankland went into Ayr’s clash with Dundee United having scored 22 goals in as many appearances in all competitions this term. And once again, he stole the show as the league leaders ran out 5-0 winners.

The 23-year-old scored four times. He broke the deadlock with a delightful header and rounded off the scoring with a delicious touch to bring a long ball down before slicing a volley into the bottom corner.

He now boasts 26 goals for the campaign, and that has caught the attention of a number of Rangers fans on social media.

As reported by the Evening Times earlier this year, Shankland is a boyhood Gers supporter, and many of the Ibrox faithful clearly feel that he could do a job for Gerrard’s side if a chance was taken on him.

There are some who doubt whether he would be anywhere near as influential in the Scottish Premiership – especially given that he would be behind Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty in the pecking order – but there are plenty who wish to see a January bid for the striker as they believe that he could contribute.
