The young Rangers striker struck three times to avenge, in part, the defeat of Graeme Murty’s side at Ibrox on Sunday.

Rangers’ week may have began with a defeat to their arch rivals, but the Ibrox side’s Under-17s went some way to making up for that against the same opposition on Wednesday.

Scotland’s big two met at Rangers’ Auchenhowie training ground for a Glasgow Cup tie which the hosts won 4-2, courtesy of a hat-trick from striker Josh McPake.

The 16-year-old, who was joined on the scoresheet by Kai Kennedy, posted the following message on Twitter afterwards.

It read: “Good 4-2 win from the boys tonight against Celtic , good to get 3 goals”.

And Rangers fans have been congratulating McPake, who signed his first professional contract at Ibrox last year, in numbers. Here are some of their replies…

And – despite their strong Celtic connections – it is a pair of Hibernian players who came out on top.
