Rangers have now confirmed the departure of boss Steven Gerrard to Aston Villa – and Russell Martin has been touted as a replacement.
After days of rumours, Gerrard has now left Rangers and been confirmed as Villa’s new boss.
Gerrard was Villa’s top choice to replace Dean Smith this week, and they have now got their man.
Gerrard has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at Villa, and Rangers must now find a replacement.
The Mirror report that Rangers are keen on Swansea City boss Russell Martin as Gerrard’s successor.
Martin spent time on loan at Rangers in 2018, but has now impressed in management with MK Dons and Swansea.
The 35-year-old is still a relative rookie, so appointing him at Rangers would be a gamble, but his style of play and approach to the game has been impressive.

Rangers fans react to Martin rumour
Rangers supporters are reeling from losing Gerrard, and seeing Martin linked hasn’t improved their mood.
Some think that the infamous ‘banter years’ will be back at Ibrox if Martin takes the job.
Others are offering up their season tickets, begging Rangers to look elsewhere.
Maybe that’s clouded by his time at Rangers as a player, as Martin does look like a very exciting coach.
Some don’t think martin is quite ready for the Rangers job just yet, needing more experience before heading back to Ibrox.
