A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to express their excitement for Glenn Middleton after the young winger posted a photo that shows him training alongside a number of the Gers’ first-team following their return for pre-season.

It is an exciting summer at Ibrox, with Steven Gerrard arriving as the new boss and six signings already coming through the door, with Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield, Jamie Murphy, Ovie Ejaria, Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson all joining the Scottish Premiership side.

Steven Gerrard is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

With the amount of time left in the window, it would certainly be a surprise if Gerrard and Mark Allen were done when it came to new signings. But perhaps Gerrard is also looking at injecting further positivity into the ranks by handing a chance to some of the club’s brightest youngsters.

In an academy that is bringing through several exciting prospects, it is arguably Middleton that appears to boast the most potential. Signed in January, the 18-year-old rarely got through a development game without providing a goal or assist for the Light Blues, and he was one of the players that many fans would have expected to see in the final weeks of the campaign had the race for second not gone down to the wire.

But perhaps Gerrard may be weighing up whether to hand him his first-team debut this coming season. Middleton posted a photo on social media which showed him running alongside five of the first-team squad, including Arfield, Josh Windass and Jordan Rossiter, seemingly hinting that he is now working with the senior side.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the photo was met with a lot of excitement amongst the Rangers fans with many believing that he is bound to make his first-team debut during the coming season.

Middleton has proved that he deserves to be considered for a chance, and it would appear that Gerrard is a fan of the youngster. And that has left many of the Ibrox faithful feeling certain that an opportunity to shine under the Liverpool legend could be just around the corner.
