Glasgow Rangers’ youngsters restored some pride as the Ibrox side ran out emphatic winners on Monday night.
A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to respond to Dapo Mebude’s tweet after the Gers’ under-17 side claimed the Glasgow Cup with an emphatic win over Celtic on Monday night.
After the club’s nightmare weekend, Rangers’ supporters needed a boost, especially as the club seemed to go completely silent in the wake of their first-team’s emphatic defeat to the Hoops on Sunday.
They may have feared that the under-17s may struggle to provide that lift as Celtic went into the final looking for their fifth win in a row. However, Rangers claimed the trophy, and did so in some style.
Ciaran Dickson scored twice before Kai Kennedy completed the rout during the second-half to ensure that Rangers would be lifting the trophy for the first time since 2013.
He may not have scored, but Mebude was a real star of the show in the victory, giving the Celtic defenders a number of headaches with some brilliant runs and trickery and coming close to adding to the score before he was replaced in the 70th minute.
And after the victory, Mebude took to social media to celebrate the cup win and praise his teammates.

Unsurprisingly, a number of Rangers fans responded to the teenager’s tweet, insisting that he has the potential to go through the ranks and into the first-team at some stage – especially with how the current senior side performed in their latest outing.
This season may be too soon for Mebude to be given a taste of first-team football with the race for second looking set to go down to the wire, but it is clear that several of the Ibrox faithful feel that he is going to be knocking on the door at some point.
