Glasgow Rangers defender Lee Wallace has barely featured for the Gers this term, and one of the Ibrox faithful wanted answers.
A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to react to Steven Gerrard’s comments at the club’s AGM – which have been reported by STV – regarding Lee Wallace’s situation.
Wallace has barely been seen at Ibrox since Gerrard’s arrival. The former captain was disciplined by the Gers after last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final defeat (via STV), and has only been on the pitch for a handful of minutes in the Scottish Premiership this term.
Borna Barisic, Jon Flanagan and Andy Halliday have been Gerrard’s main three options at left-back this season. And, as reported by STV, one Rangers fan used the AGM to slam the club’s treatment of Wallace, even describing it as disgusting.
That prompted Gerrard to insist that there was no problem between himself and the 31-year-old, before he explained why Wallace has struggled for game-time since his arrival.
“Lee Wallace was out injured when I came in and had missed 12 months before then,” he said, as reported by STV. “I pay tribute to how Lee has gone about his business when he has been injured.
“To be candid, as long as he’s here he remains part of my plans and he trains with us but I believe we have better options in that position at the moment. My relationship with Lee is fine.”
Gerrard’s response has prompted a very mixed response. Some seemed to agree with the supporter who asked the question and are not happy with the manager’s answer.
However, others have suggested that Wallace is probably not good enough to get into the team any longer. And some have criticised the fan for making the statement when there are other issues that could have been discussed.
