Glasgow Rangers defender James Tavernier has been linked with the Ibrox exit.

A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to react to reports emerging from the Daily Express over the weekend suggesting that James Tavernier could attract a bid from Southampton during the final days of the January transfer window.

The Express suggested that the Gers are holding out for at least £8 million before they consider selling Tavernier, who has come onto the Saints’ radar following Cedric Soares’ departure earlier in the month.

It must be noted that Steven Gerrard subsequently suggested, in comments reported by the Daily Mail, that the Gers have not received any substantial bids for their players and, as far as he is aware, Southampton are not tracking the 27-year-old.

Nevertheless, the reports have prompted plenty of debate on social media. Tavernier has been excellent this season, scoring nine goals in all competitions, while also providing eight assists in the Scottish Premiership.

Plenty of Rangers supporters believe that the club should have no interest in selling for around £8 million, especially during the January window when signing a replacement is going to prove to be an incredibly tough task.

There are some who have faith in Jon Flanagan, and thus, believe that selling makes sense if the Saints do come calling with that kind of fee. But the majority would seemingly much prefer to see the Rangers hierarchy hold onto their skipper, or at least demand a lot more money.
