Glasgow Rangers crashed back to earth against St Johnstone this weekend.
Rangers had been on a fine run of form under interim manager Graeme Murty, but they crashed back to earth with a bang on Saturday when they lost 3-1 at home to St Johnstone.
Things looked to be going well for the Gers when Alfredo Morelos scored an early opener, proving that his recent barren spell is well and truly behind him. However that was as good as it got for the hosts, with St Johnstone hitting back just five minutes later and going on to score two more second-half strikes.
That result saw Rangers drop to third in the Scottish Premiership as they head into the festive fixtures and Murty will know it is a major blow to any hopes he has of keeping the job until the end of the current campaign.
Rangers had been in impressive form, suggesting a valid chase could be on to catch league leaders Celtic in 2018. Yet this result raises more doubts about the quality of the Gers side.
One player who is highly regarded at Ibrox is youngster Ross McCrorie and the 19-year-old started for Murty’s men on Saturday. Unfortunately, the talented teenager was not able to influence the match as he has so effectively in recent matches.
