Incoming Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is said to have been alerted to the player’s availability, provoking a mixture of responses from the Ibrox faithful.

Rangers fans are reacting on Twitter to a report linking the Ibrox side with John McGinn.

The Daily Record claims Steven Gerrard, the incoming Rangers manager, has been ‘alerted’ to McGinn’s availability by Mark Allen and Andy Scoulding, who oversee recruitment at Ibrox.

And it adds that the Hibernian player has himself been informed of interest from Rangers.

Steven Gerrard is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to the Daily Record, Gerrard must now weigh up whether or not he wishes to proceed with a move for McGinn, for whom it is claimed the bidding will start at £3 million, with English clubs also keen.

The rumour has provoked a mixed response in the blue half of Glasgow, with some for (believing McGinn to be one the best midfielders in Scotland), some against (acknowledging his family have strong ties to Celtic) and others discrediting it altogether.
