The Rangers defender is thought to be among the highest earners at Ibrox, whose new boss Steven Gerrard is reportedly looking to strengthen in Alves’s position.

Rangers are ready to refuse the release of Bruno Alves amid interest in the Ibrox centre-back from his native Portugal, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper reports Vitoria Guimaraes have been ‘investigating ways’ to acquire Alves’s services, but cannot afford to buy him from Rangers.
The World Cup bound veteran is said to earn £28,000 a week at Ibrox – at least four times more than any Vitoria player – with has a year left on his contract.

And the Liga Nos side were hoping Rangers would be willing to free Alves with a pay-off to offset any drop in salary, according to the Daily Record – something the newspaper adds Vitoria are now resigned to not happening, to the delight of many Gers fans on Twitter.
This is what they are saying…
Alves is one of only three senior centre-backs left at Rangers, following the departures of Danny Wilson, Matthew Bates and Russell Martin this year.
However, Steven Gerrard’s side are said to be closing in on a deal for Brighton’s Connor Goldson.
