The former Rangers youngster was unable to agree a new contract with the Ibrox side, now managed by Steven Gerrard.

Some Rangers fans are reacting on Twitter to reports that one of their former players is attracting Premier League interest, just months after he was allowed to leave Ibrox on the cheap.

Rangers saw David Bates quit for Hamburg after failing to agree a new contract with the 22-year-old centre-back.

And according to the Sunday Mirror, Bates’ early displays in Germany’s second tier have had scouts from Arsenal, Everton, Leicester City, Southampton and Watford flocking to the Volksparkstadion.

The rumour has come as quite a shock to several Gers supporters – although others are now ruing the club’s decision to let him go.
