Hibernian manager Neil Lennon, a former Celtic player and coach, has caused a fair few headlines with his scathing criticism of Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha.

As soon as the Portuguese arrived at Ibrox in a flurry of soundbites, declaring Rangers the biggest club in Scotland in the least subtle jibe in footballing history, he almost made a rod for his own back.
As such, there are no shortage of critics now jumping at the chance to proclaim that Caixinha’s bark is far worse than his bite – with former Celtic manager Lennon among them.
“I think he has been average to say the least,” the Hibernian boss told BT Sport. “He talks great in front of the cameras, looks great.
“We all talk a great game about tactics and formations and this that and the other, it’s a results driven business. I don’t think there has been any improvement since (previous manager Mark) Warburton left.”

That may be slightly harsh. Yes, Rangers were abysmal in defeats against Old Firm rivals Celtic in both league and cup, losing 7-1 on aggregate. But the Ibrox giants have played some fantastic football at times while beating Hearts at home and cruising past Aberdeen 3-0 at Pittodrie.
So far, he’s only lost once in eight league games and the fact that Rangers will finish comfortably behind second placed Aberdeen is more a result of an underwhelming series of results towards the end of Warburton’s tenure.
‘Average’ is a strong word. And Rangers supporters have a few of those too for Lennon.
