Did Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers make a mistake in releasing Lee Wallace?
It’s fair to say that Rangers fans aren’t thrilled about the latest report about Lee Wallace.
Rangers released the 31-year-old defender this month after an anonymous 2018-19 campaign.
The left-back, who was fit all season, was given just 55 minutes of football across all competitions by manager Steven Gerrard last term.
Gerrard often preferred to play Andy Halliday – a centre-midfielder – at left-back if Borna Barisic or Jon Flanagan were absent.
But Wallace, who spent eight years with the light Blues and won a number of promotions following the financial collapse in 2012, might be set to land on his feet, with The Scottish Sun reporting that QPR boss Mark Warburton wants him.
Warburton, who took over at Loftus Road last month, managed the Scotland international during his spell at Ibrox.
Wallace found himself in hot water with Rangers’ board when he and Kenny Miller subjected then-manager Graeme Murty to a verbal assault shortly after a Scottish Cup semi-final defeat by Celtic some 14 months ago.
The pair were subsequently suspended, with Miller ultimately leaving Ibrox.
This could be a superb transfer for Wallace if it materialises. It’s a huge second chance and one he must make the most of if it happens.
