Rangers have established a fairly strong academy setup in recent years, but the pathway to first-team football is tricky.

The Gers have the likes of Nathan Patterson, Leon King, Cole McKinnon, Josh McPake and Dapo Mebude looking to make the step up, but Steven Gerrard has failed to really bring them into the first-team setup.

Billy Gilmour left as a young age to join Chelsea in 2017, and Rangers could now see another talent leave their ranks.

Winger Kai Kennedy has been tipped for a bright future at Ibrox, with boss Gerrard even calling him a ‘fabulous’ player back in November.

Kennedy made his senior debut in the Scottish Cup tie with Stranraer earlier this year, and it looked like he was poised for a big breakthrough.

However, The Scottish Sun and the Daily Record both report that Kennedy has now been told he can leave Rangers, because he has failed to agree a new deal.

It now looks like the 18-year-old will be moving on this summer, and Rangers fans have been taking to Twitter to react to the news.

Some believe that Kennedy is being poorly advised and will ultimately regret leaving Rangers, as the Gers offer him the best development path right now.

Others think that Rangers should be doing more to keep young players like Kennedy at the club, believing too many youngsters are being lost in the current setup.
