The Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has sanctioned a new deal for an Ibrox academy product.

Rangers fans look on during the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium on September 1, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers fans are reacting to the news that Jamie Barjonas has signed a new contract at Ibrox.

Barjonas has played nine times for Rangers, but never under Steven Gerrard.

Despite that, Gerrard promoted the Rangers academy product into his first-team plans earlier this season – sorting him a locker and some training kit with his initials on, as is customary for the seniors at Ibrox.

And Gerrard, formerly a midfielder like Barjonas, has now sanctioned a 12-month extension on the 20-year-old’s deal.

But Rangers’ announcement does not appear to have pleased everyone associated with the Ibrox giants, as the following tweets demonstrate…

Barjonas has spells on loan to Bury and Raith Rovers last season and another temporary spell may be necessary, with competition from Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Steven Davis, Joe Aribo, Scott Arfield, Andy King, Greg Docherty, Matt Polster and Andy Halliday at Ibrox.

A number of Rangers players and staff have already tweeted their congratulations to Barjonas.

Rangers fans – how would Barjonas fit into your plans?
