Fabio Cardoso has been linked with a move away from Ibrox after a difficult first season with Rangers.

Rangers defender Fabio Cardoso has returned to pre-season training early after a holiday in Mexico, posting a Tweet that showed the Portuguese outcast back in the gym – and Ibrox fans have discussed his future at the club.

The 24-year-old centre-back was one of many to join the Gers last summer, as former manager Pedro Caixinha brought in a whole host of stars from his home country – including Dalcio, Daniel Candeias and Bruno Alves.

Cardoso was considered first choice alongside Alves at the start of the season, but he suffered a broken nose and huge facial disfigurement during the Scottish League Cup semi-final – being on the receiving end of a Ryan Bowman elbow.

It saw him miss a number of matches and only return to fitness when Caixinha had been sacked and replaced by Murty, leaving him to make just three appearances in 2018. He posted on Twitter that he has returned to the gym.

In total, Cardoso managed just 18 appearances in all competitions for The Gers, helping the club keep six clean sheets. It remains to be seen what kind of future Cardoso has under new manager Steven Gerrard.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola claimed back in December that Estoril were interested in Cardoso and he could drum up interest again this summer.

Fans replied to the commanding defender’s Tweet, with many hopeful that he remains at Ibrox for another year with the Gers significantly lacking in centre-back options. Only Cardoso, Alves and Ross McCrorie remain.

However, some believe he should be offloaded this summer, with one fan Tweeting: “hope you get a decent move.”
