Fans of Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers react to David Bates’s goal on Wednesday.

Rangers fans have congratulated David Bates on Twitter after scoring his first goal for new club Hamburg on Wednesday night.
The German outfit thumped TuS Dassendorf 10-0 in a pre-season friendly last night.

Bates, who joined Hamburg on a free transfer from Rangers earlier this summer, rose highest to head home the eighth goal of the game – and his first for the club.

The 21-year-old had become a firm fan favourite among the Ibrox faithful last season for his passionate, commanding displays at the heart of defence.
And fans of the Gers bear no ill will toward their former defender, if the tweets about his goal are anything to go by.
It will be interesting to see if Bates’s absence is felt at Rangers next season.
New manager Steven Gerrard has already replaced him after signing Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson, but neither are proven in the Scottish Premiership.
