It looks like Glasgow Rangers boss Graeme Murty probably won’t be at Ibrox next season.
Rangers fans on Twitter believe that chairman Dave King’s latest statement is an indication that Graeme Murty will not get the manager’s job on a long-term basis.
The 43-year-old was appointed as Rangers boss until the end of the season in December after King and his colleagues failed to find a successor for Pedro Caixinha, who was axed in October.
For a long time it seemed like Murty was staking a decent claim to stay on as manager beyond the end of this season, but one point from three games – including defeat by Celtic – before the 4-0 win over Dundee on Saturday is thought to have put paid to that ambition.
The Ibrox side have another Old Firm derby in the Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday, but King effectively confirmed today that somebody will take over from the former Reading defender, irrespective of what happens at Hampden.
He said: “On the managerial front I emphasise that the board fully recognises the need for sustained stability in this area of the club. Whoever is appointed must be able to meet the unique challenges of managing Rangers and ensuring immediate success.
“It is a priority that we commence next season with the best appointment we can make and that we move forward rapidly.”
And Rangers fans have interpreted it as a clear sign that Murty will be disposed of this summer.
