Rangers released a statement this week in response to a court ruling that went in Sports Direct’s favour, after a legal battle regarding the club’s merchandising and retail sales.

Seeking to reassure supporters after what they claim were wrong reports, the club have promised to meet any financial obligations resulting from the decision at the High Court in London on Monday.

They also confirmed that fans can have confidence in buying this season’s kits produced by Hummel.

In a statement, the club said: “Rangers was disappointed by the terms of the recent court Judgement but respects the decision of the court and will meet any financial award made by the court.

“No such award has yet been decided and at this stage Rangers does not even know how much will be sought. Contrary to some reports, the Judge has not determined that the contractual cap on damages will not apply.”

The Daily Record had reported that the Gers may have to pay ‘millions in damages’ after a Judge ruled that the club entered into an agreement with Elite/Hummel without first offering Sports Direct a contractually agreed chance to match it.

It’s a difficult situation for supporters watching on who, more than anything, likely want any money generated by the club to be spent on improving the club and Steven Gerrard’s squad.

The club’s statement didn’t go down too well with some fans, with many lamenting the situation and others feeling the club were too vague with their information.
