Rangers took full advantage of Celtic dropping points away at Aberdeen by easing past Livingston at Ibrox this afternoon.

The Gers saw Celtic draw 3-3 earlier on Sunday afternoon, and knew they could open up a six-point gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

They did their work early, as Joe Aribo fired Rangers in front before Jermain Defoe buried James Tavernier’s pass with a deft finish.

Rangers could and maybe should have gone on to score more given that they had 70% of possession, but they at least kept yet another clean sheet.

Steven Gerrard will be delighted with the win given that he chose to rest the likes of Borna Barisic, Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield and Alfredo Morelos yet still sealed a comfortable win.

One of the players who came in was Calvin Bassey, as the 20-year-old started at left back in place of Barisic, and produced a strong performance.

The summer signing from Leicester City was praised on Twitter for his display, with fans branding him a ‘baller’ and ‘a gem’.

Some are delighted that he is now Barisic’s main competition, believing he is great backup and an ‘absolute machine’ based on today’s performance.
