Rangers kicked off their preseason preparations with an impressive win on Thursday night, beating Lyon 2-0 in France.
The Gers made the trip over to France on Thursday, and Lyon were seen as a great challenge for Steven Gerrard’s side ahead of the new season.
The starting lineup wasn’t full-strength Lyon, but quality players like Bertrand Traore, Karl Toko-Ekambi and Rafael all started alongside youngsters like Joachim Andersen, Jean Lucas, Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Rayan Cherki.
Rangers managed to win the game though, as Ianis Hagi scored twice in the first half to give Gerrard a superb victory.
Ryan Kent’s red card was a blot on the Rangers copy book, but Gerrard and Rangers fans will be delighted with the performance and the result – even if it was only a friendly.
Whilst new signing Jon McLaughlin started the game, fellow arrival Calvin Bassey was used as a substitute after signing from Leicester City last month.

The defender played at left back when he came on, and did enough to impress a number of Rangers fans on Twitter even after a shaky start.
Fans were ‘really impressed’ with Bassey, believing that he could have a huge future at Rangers.
Some understand now why Gerrard has been so excited about Bassey, with a feeling that he could be a real star.
