Glasgow Rangers are reportedly closing in on a deal to bring Ovie Ejaria to Ibrox as Steven Gerrard prepares for his first season with the Gers.

Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the reports that emerged from The Scottish Sun over the weekend which suggested that the Gers are close to agreeing a deal to sign Liverpool youngster Ovie Ejaria this summer.

Steven Gerrard officially took over at Ibrox last week and is looking to make his first signing to add to the acquisitions of Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield. And the report suggests that Ejaria may be the first signing of the Gerrard era at Rangers.

The Scottish Sun reports that Gerrard expects the formalities of a deal to be tied up during the coming days, with Jurgen Klopp ready to sanction the 20-year-old’s move to the Gers while he also considers whether to let the likes of Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent follow Ejaria to the Scottish Premiership.

Signing the midfielder is arguably going to be a gamble from Gerrard despite the fact that he will have known about the youngster before taking the Ibrox gig.

Ejaria only boasts eight appearances for the Reds’ first-team and endured a fairly torrid loan spell at Sunderland during the second-half of this past season. He was unable to help the Black Cats stay in the Championship and his form was not particularly impressive.

That has left a number of Rangers supporters concerned about how good a signing he may prove to be. Some even fear that he could prove to be the second coming of Dalcio, who was barely seen after completing his loan move to the Gers last summer.

However, there is also a lot of praise for Gerrard’s interest as some of the Ibrox faithful believe he could prove to be an inspired signing in the middle of the park, especially as there will be few better mentors for him than Gerrard and his assistant, Gary McAllister.
