After arriving at Ibrox in the summer, Matt Gilks was sold by Rangers to Wigan last month.

Matt Gilks’ spell at Glasgow Rangers lasted just six months, with the veteran goalkeeper sold in January to Wigan Athletic.

Gilks, 34, had one of the best games of his career at the weekend, as he made his home debut for the Latics against Preston North End.

He saved two penalties to earn his side a point in a 0-0 draw which could prove crucial in their battle against relegation to League One.

Gilks was a player Rangers could have done with a day later with number one stopper Wes Foderingham disappointing in their loss to Dundee.

Rangers sold Gilks because he was unable to displace Foderingham as first choice, even though he shone in his limited opportunities.

He made only five first team appearances for the Gers, including the 1-0 cup defeat to Celtic in which his performance won widespread plaudits despite the defeat.

Gilks is proving to be an asset for Wigan, and one who perhaps should have been given more chances at his former club.
