Glasgow Rangers confirmed on Friday that the Ibrox director of football – key in bringing Steven Gerrard to Rangers – has tendered his resignation.

A number of Glasgow Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that Mark Allen has tendered his resignation as Ibrox director of football, as announced by the Rangers website.

Allen was brought to Rangers from Manchester City in June 2017 to oversee the Light Blues’ transformation on and off the pitch under the new regime headed by chairman Dave King.

The former head of Man City’s academy was responsible for bringing Steven Gerrard to Ibrox as manager, though he did also oversee the appointment of predecessor Pedro Caixinha.

Allen was also responsible for the players brought in at Ibrox, with more than 30 being signed by Rangers in just over two years, and the summer just gone was particularly busy on the transfer front.

In a statement on Friday night, Rangers thanked Allen for his efforts over the past two years and for raising the standard of the squad.

Regarding the news, Rangers said it is “a blow” and that Allen – who also led the renovation and improvement of the Hummel Training Centre – had decided to “move on for family reasons and in order to explore other options”.

Here is what some Bears said on social media regarding the announcement:
