Glasgow Rangers had issued a statement which hinted that a resolution could be close, but reports now suggest otherwise.

Rangers fans have been reacting on Twitter after the latest chapter in the Joey Barton saga was written following another dramatic day at Ibrox.

Barton has been suspended since the days following the Old Firm defeat to Celtic after a training ground incident. And while it appeared that his days with the Gers could be numbered as his suspension continued, there appeared to be a glimmer of light as the club issued a statement on their official website on Wednesday afternoon.

The statement announced that the 34-year-old would be returning to training once the disciplinary procedures into his conduct had reached a conclusion (via club’s official website).

However, it quickly became apparent that Barton was practically no closer to appearing for Mark Warburton’s side after the statement, as Sky Sports reported that he will train with the academy and will not be considered for first-team selection.

And perhaps unsurprisingly, the latest turn of events has been poorly received by a large portion of Rangers supporters who have taken to social media to vent their frustration.

The situation has been unresolved for a number of weeks now, and many fans are angry that despite the statement, the end to the saga appears to be no nearer, while some supporters have actually urged Warburton to give the controversial midfielder another chance in the team.
