Glasgow Rangers have announced that Kyle Lafferty has left Ibrox after his contract was terminated.

A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that the club confirmed on their official website that Kyle Lafferty has left Ibrox after having his contract terminated by mutual consent.

Lafferty’s departure has looked to be on the cards throughout the summer. He arrived one year ago off the back of an incredibly impressive spell with Hearts, and it appeared that he may be a shrewd signing as Steven Gerrard looked to provide Alfredo Morelos with support and competition.

Unfortunately for the Northern Ireland international, his return to the Gers did not go to plan. He made just six starts in the Scottish Premiership, and was completely out of favour by the end of the season as Jermain Defoe shone following his loan move in January.

The 31-year-old had not been seen throughout pre-season, so his exit before the transfer window closed looked inevitable. But it appears that the manner of his move away has caught some by surprise.

The club have confirmed on social media that he has left on a free by mutual consent, seemingly making it easier for the striker to find another team. And the inability to secure a fee for the forward has led to some criticism.

Most of the fans on Twitter are happy to see him gone. But with his departure already looking likely, some feel more annoyed that he has gone on a free transfer.
