Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers drew 1-1 with Hamilton at Ibrox on Saturday.
Rangers marked their much-anticipated Scottish Premiership return with a lukewarm start as Mark Warburton’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by Hamilton on Saturday.
It was a sold-out Ibrox yesterday as over 50,000 fans turned up expecting to see a new-look Gers side announce their return to the top flight in style after a four-year absence.
But the visitors did not read the script as Alistair Crawford fired Hamilton ahead on the half-hour mark in what was enough to give Accies a 1-0 half-time lead.
Rangers came back stronger in the second half and Martyn Waghorn netted the equaliser on 62 minutes as Warburton’s troops threw themselves a lifeline.
It was not enough to win all three points, but there were a few positives in the form of some individual performances – especially that of Rangers new boy Joey Barton.
Rangers made a big statement by luring the 33-year-old to Ibrox this summer, and if his Premiership debut is anything to go by then the no-nonsense midfielder might well be a very big player for Warburton this season – and the fans know it.
