Rangers are reportedly close to completing the signing of Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe.
Rangers supporters on Twitter have praised the club for pulling off a reported deal for Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe despite his high wages.
Sky Sports claimed on Thursday that the 36-year-old has agreed personal terms with the Scottish Premiership side and is set to join on an 18-month loan deal.
It is said that the deal is subject to Defoe passing a medical this weekend as the Premier League side have two recall options – this summer and in January 2020.
The Daily Record have claimed that the former Tottenham striker is raking in between £65,000 and £80,000 a week at the Vitality Stadium, although it is unclear how much of that the Glasgow club is paying.
One supporter on Twitter stated that he thought Defoe’s potential transfer to Ibrox was ‘a mile away’ because of his high wages as he praised the club’s hierarchy for pulling off such a move.
Another fan pointed out that the reason why the Gers are loaning Defoe and not signing him on a permanent transfer is because of his high wages.
Whilst another supporter jokingly stated that ‘the SFA are paying Defoe’s wages because of the good publicity it will bring to the Scottish game’.
Nonetheless, the majority of the Rangers faithful were delighted with this deal as it could have a big bearing on who wins the Scottish Premiership title at the end of the season.
