The Scottish Premiership club are looking for a new manager following the departure of Pedro Caixinha.
Caixinha was dismissed by the Gers due to the team’s disappointing results and performances in the Scottish Premiership this season.
According to The Herald, former Sunderland boss Poyet is interested in taking charge of Rangers.
It has been reported that the ex-Leeds United assistant manager has had his name put forward to Rangers director of football Mark Allen.
The 49-year-old former Uruguay international midfielder is without a managerial job at the moment, having resigned as the Shanghai Shenhua boss in September.
Poyet has managed Sunderland in the Premier League and has won the League One title in England with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Meanwhile, former Celtic attacking midfielder Kris Commons has praised Rangers caretaker-manager Graeme Murty and has given his take on Pedro Caixinha.
“Rangers are a team transformed by Graeme Murty,” Commons wrote in The Daily Mail. “They have won two matches against Hearts and Partick Thistle, scoring six goals and conceding just one. “
“Whether or not Murty remains in charge for the Hamilton match, Rangers winning three in a row after the departure of their manager would further underline the fact that Pedro was the wrong man for the job,” added Commons.
