Glasgow Rangers defender Danny Wilson has suggested that he is keen to extend his contract at Ibrox.

Rangers fans have been reacting on Twitter after Danny Wilson suggested, in comments reported by The Scottish Sun, that he is extremely keen to extend his contract with the Gers.

Wilson’s current deal at Ibrox expires at the end of the season, and there appears to be some uncertainty regarding whether he will secure an extension before the summer. But it is clear that if the decision was down to the centre-back, he will be putting pen to paper on fresh terms in the near future.

“I really want to stay at Rangers,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun. “I’m in the last six months of my contract now so something will happen one way or another.

“But I hope it’s to stay at Rangers because I’m never happier than when I’m here playing games. It’s a discussion that will hopefully be had in the near future.”

If Pedro Caixinha was still in charge of the Gers, it would probably be no surprise if Wilson’s deal was allowed to expire – and it may be fair to suggest that the supporters may not have been too upset about his departure if he did ultimately leave given that he has never quite managed to stamp his authority on a place in the team.

However, the 26-year-old has become a much more important player for the Light Blues since Graeme Murty was put in charge, making 12 of his 15 appearances since the former under-20s coach stepped into the breach.

And while some of his performances have attracted criticism, his general form has been impressive, and there is perhaps an argument to suggest that he has been the club’s best centre-back since Murty took charge for a second time.

Therefore, it is no surprise that many of the supporters who have been discussing Wilson’s future on social media seem to want the former Liverpool man to get his wish and be handed a new deal.
