Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata produced the perfect answer to criticism from his own supporters yesterday.
Supporters at Celtic Park unfurled a banner telling Boyata he was ‘not fit to wear the shirt’, only to see the Belgian pop up to score the winner against Hamilton.
It made for some awkward celebrations, on the pitch and in the stands with the centre-back causing some Celtic fans to eat their words.
Celtic face Rangers next week and having Boyata back in the team is a clear boost.
He had incurred the wrath of supporters amid transfer speculation, with manager Brendan Rodgers telling fans that Boyata had refused to play in their Champions League tie away to AEK Athens, while the defender claimed he was injured.
Injury or not, Boyata shone in the face of fury from some supporters, delivering the perfect response.
Many Celtic fans were split on the banner, feeling it had gone too far, while Rangers supporters found it very amusing.
Ahead of the Old Firm clash next weekend, Rangers fans were full of criticism and mockery for their Celtic counterparts.
