Rangers may not be in action this weekend due to the international break, but Gers fans still had something to watch on Saturday afternoon.

The Gers went into the break with a 5-0 thumping of Hamilton Academical, and fans won’t have been too enthused by Scotland’s performance against Russia on Thursday.

However, fans were able to head to Ibrox on Saturday afternoon, as Rangers Legends took on Liverpool Legends in a charity match, with the proceeds going to the Rangers Charity Foundation and the LFC Foundation.

Kris Boyd missed an early penalty for Rangers, and then saw Luis Garcia and Patrik Berger both score inside the first 17 minutes to put Liverpool 2-0 up.

In a frantic opening half an hour, Boyd pulled one back for Rangers, Emile Heskey restored Liverpool’s two-goal lead and Peter Lovenkrands grabbed another back for Rangers, but that was the scoring done, 15 minutes before the break.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard ended up splitting his game, playing for Liverpool in the first half and Rangers in the second, and fans have been taking to Twitter to react to some performances.

One player who caught the eye for some fans was right back Alan Hutton, who remains a free agent having left Aston Villa at the end of last season.

Hutton, 34, started for Rangers on Saturday, and was praised for an ‘outstanding’ and ‘superb’ display, with some urging the club to re-sign him on a free transfer, almost 12 years since he left Ibrox for Tottenham.

Some suggested he’s still better than James Tavernier, which is certainly a bold claim, with a number of fans feeling he’s ‘still got it’ and should be brought back to Rangers until the end of the season.
