Rangers fans have taken to Twitter after their 1-1 draw with St Johnstone, and while the general mood was one of disappointment, some supporters expressed their delight to see a forgotten man return to the starting line-up.

Mark Warburton’s men went into the clash at Ibrox looking to bounce back from the narrow defeat they suffered in the Scottish League Cup semi-final at the weekend.

However, the game started in the worst possible manner as Blair Alston gave the away side the lead after just five minutes. And while Joe Garner equalised eight minutes before the break, the Gers were unable to find another, meaning that they have dropped yet more ground to Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic.

But while their slim title hopes have now become even bleaker following the draw – Rangers now sit nine points adrift of the summit and have played a game more than the Hoops – there was one positive to be taken from the game.

With the side struggling for goals in the league this term – following the draw, they have scored just 12 times in 10 games – there have been an increasing number of calls over recent weeks for Michael O’Halloran to be handed his first league start of the campaign.

The 25-year-old has struggled to make a major impact since his move to Ibrox in January, but with so many other players struggling to recapture their form from last year, it is hardly surprising that Warburton decided to give O’Halloran a chance to make an impression from the start.

And while some supporters were still critical of the winger’s performance, many thought that the former St Johnstone man gave a good account of himself and deserves to keep his place for the clash with Kilmarnock this weekend.
