Former Glasgow Rangers defender Henning Berg has become the latest name to apply for the Ibrox post.
Rangers fans have been reacting on Twitter to the news coming out of the Daily Record on Thursday that Henning Berg has applied for the vacant manager’s position at Ibrox.
Berg is currently out of work, having left Videoton earlier this year. And the Record reports that he has thrown his hat into the ring for the Rangers job as the Scottish Premiership side continue their search for Pedro Caixinha’s successor.
The Record reports that the Gers would prefer to appoint a British manager – so it appears that Berg’s chances of getting the job are currently slim, and it appears that a fair amount of the supporters will be happy that the retired defender may not get a look in if the Light Blues stick to the plan of trying to appoint a domestic manager.
Berg has been sacked by his last four clubs and has failed to reach 100 games in charge during any of his five managerial spells to date, and the disappointment of Caixinha’s tenure may leave many supporters wary of appointing a boss who has no managerial experience in the Scottish Premiership and just 10 games in the dugout in British football.
Interestingly however, there a minority of fans who appear open to the idea of Berg returning to Ibrox 13 years after his one-year stay as a player came to an end.
Berg has enjoyed some success as a manager, so perhaps fearing what the lack of progress in the manager search may mean regarding who is in the frame, it appears some do not want the Norwegian’s name to be taken off the table entirely.
