Glasgow Rangers could face a battle trying to hold onto one of their brightest prospects after the Bundesliga side took an interest.

Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to discuss the reports emanating from the Daily Record today that suggest that Barrie McKay is a January target for Bundesliga high-flyers RB Leipzig.

The Gers recently faced Leipzig in a mid-season friendly as Mark Warburton’s squad continued their preparations for the second half of the campaign, but were soundly beaten by the German club.

However, one player who appears to have left an impression is the 22-year-old. The Record is now suggesting that McKay – who is also on the radar of some Premier League sides – is attracting RB Leipzig’s attention and the club have held preliminary talks regarding a £6 million move for the winger.

The Light Blues could potentially be left in a difficult position as the Record suggests that he has 18 months left on his contract at Ibrox. Therefore, if McKay makes it clear that he will not be extending his deal with the Gers, they may want to consider letting him go while the money is on the table.

News of the interest has been widely discussed by Rangers fans on social media. While some have pointed out that he has not been at his best this term – he has scored twice and contributed three assists in the Scottish Premiership – most Gers supporters have urged the youngster to stay put as Warburton’s squad will be worse off for not having a player of McKay’s ability and creativity amongst its ranks.
