Rangers’ development side earned a late victory over Partick Thistle on Monday evening.
Rangers teenage prodigy Serge Atakayi sent another message to interim manager Graeme Murty that he is ready for first-team football on Monday evening – and fans agree that he should be given his chance in the senior side.
Born in Janaury 1999, 18-year-old Atakayi is considered one of the hottest prospects in Rangers’ glowing academy that has produced the likes of promoted stars such as Ross McCrorie, David Bates and Myles Beerman.
The Gers’ youngsters faced Partick Thistle in the Scottish Youth Cup on Monday and earned an enthralling 5-2 triumph in extra time, as Billy Kirkwood took charge of the side in the absence of senior caretaker manager Murty.
Four-time Finland Under-19 international Atakayi, who first signed for Rangers in August 2016 from Finnish side FF Jaro, scored the Gers third goal in their 5-2 win. He showed composure in among a body of Jags players to fire low into the net.
Atakayi is yet to make a senior appearance for the Gers but after the senior side’s 2-0 loss to Hamilton on Saturday, fans are crying out for a new spark to reinvigorate the side in the lead up until Christmas.
Rangers fans responded to Atakayi’s goal by stating that he should be Murty’s first team as Rangers face Dundee on Friday night. One fan even claimed that he has “got to be better” than Manchester City loanee Aaron Nemane.
