GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - OCTOBER 22:Bruno Alves of Rangers tackles All Campbell of Motherwell during the Betfred Cup Semi Final at Hampden Park on October 22, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers fans have been left livid on social media after The Scottish Sun reported that Bruno Alves is set to be handed a two-game ban for an incident that took place during Sunday’s Scottish League Cup semi-final with Motherwell.

Alves escaped punishment at Hampden Park despite kicking out at Louis Moult following an aerial challenge during the second-half of the tie that Well would go on to win.

Moult was booked following the incident. But while it may have appeared that Alves got away with the reaction, The Scottish Sun reports that he is now set to be ruled out of either their clash with Kilmarnock on Wednesday or their away game against Hearts at the weekend after being handed a two-match ban.

The Scottish Sun adds that the ban will involve a suspension for the first game immediately after it has been accepted -unless they make a successful appeal – while the second game will be served in the next League Cup tie that the Gers play – which will be next season after Motherwell won on Sunday.

Unsurprisingly, the fans who have taken to Twitter are quite angry about the reported decision – and not really because they feel that Alves did not do anything wrong.

The game saw Alves’ centre-back partner Fabio Cardoso receive a broken nose after an aerial challenge with Well’s other striker Ryan Bowman. The incident did not result in Bowman being booked – he received a yellow in the first-half for a similar offence – but The Scottish Sun reports that he has escaped any punishment for the second challenge that left Cardoso covered in blood.

And Rangers fans are furious with the governing body for their respective decisions following the game…
