Rangers’ chances of bringing Ryan Kent back to Ibrox have taken a blow.

Ryan Kent of Rangers celebrates after he scores during The Ladbrokes Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on March 31, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Daily Record report that Rangers’ hopes of landing Ryan Kent on loan for the second successive season took a big blow on Sunday after Jurgen Klopp dismissed the idea of him leaving Anfield on a temporary basis.

Citing his age, Klopp feels his future is best served finding a permanent home and The Daily Record say that Liverpool value him at as much as £10m.

That kind of fee is likely well beyond Rangers’ current capabilities and so the chances of him arriving at Ibrox this summer now look very slim.

Kent was excellent in Steven Gerrard’s side last season, winning the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award, voted on by his fellow pros.

He’s featured against Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Sporting for Liverpool on their tour of the USA this summer but displacing Klopp’s UEFA Champions League winning stars in the Reds’ first-team doesn’t seem likely either.

Rangers have since signed attacking talent such as Jordan Jones and Sheyi Ojo to help replace Kent, but as former captain Barry Ferguson pointed out over the weekend, the winger could have played a very important role next season.

It’s an undoubted blow for Gerrard who spoke as recently as last week about holding out hope of signing him.

Whether Klopp is putting the feelers out for potential bids or is firm in his permanent move assertion remains to be seen.

Some Rangers fans are still holding out hope of bringing the player to Ibrox, while others are resigned to the fact he won’t be travelling north again.

These supporters took to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all…
