The Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard, has already called up several Ibrox youngsters this season.

Steven Gerrard, Manager of Rangers looks on prior to the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Livingston and Rangers at Tony Macaroni Arena on January 27, 2019 in Livingston, United Kingdom.

Steven Gerrard sent five first-team players to Rangers’ reserves on Wednesday afternoon.

But while one of those, Glenn Middleton, deserves a mention for his two goals in a 5-0 win for the Gers against Morton, it is a 17-year-old without any senior experience who stole the show.

With Andrew Dallas loaned out in January – incidentally, to Morton – the spotlight is now firmly fixed on Josh McPake, another young Rangers striker.

After two goals against Queens Park at the weekend, McPake followed up with a hat-trick at Rangers’ training facility.

And the calls for him to follow Middleton, Stephen Kelly, Serge Atakayi and Jordan Houston into Gerrard’s first-team plans are growing as a result.

McPake still has another 15 months left on his contract at Rangers, according to Transfermarkt.

The Coatbridge native, a Scotland Under-17 international, can also play as a winger.

Is McPake the next Rangers youngster Steven Gerrard should be looking at?
