Former Rangers midfielder Liam Burt, who left Ibrox at the end of last season, has signed a two-year contract at Celtic, the Hoops announced on Tuesday night.

Burt had been at the Gers for a number of years and made his senior debut with the club back in 2016 when he was still just 17 years of age.

Going on to make just two more appearances in the first-team, he failed to make serious progress before his exit a few months ago.

Last term he was sent on loan to Scottish Championship side Alloa, which followed a similar spell on loan at Dumbarton the season prior.

He’s been training with Celtic all summer on trial and clearly he has impressed the Lennoxtown coaches enough to win a contract.

Whether he can prove to Neil Lennon and staff whether he is worthy of first-team inclusion remains to be seen, but he will initially join the club’s Reserve side.

Only a handful of others in the modern era have played for both clubs, so the deal does stand-out, even if it doesn’t impact on the Gers too much.

No doubt some Gers fans will be hoping he doesn’t make a success of himself at Celtic Park though, with the potential for that to come back and bite the Ibrox outfit.

For a number of Rangers supporters, Burt’s move has caused amusement more than anything else, with this lot taking to Twitter this week to share their thoughts on it all…
