The Rangers winger made his debut under Steven Gerrard at Ibrox earlier this season.

Serge Atakayi of Rangers challenges Dougie Nyaupembe of Bury during the Pre-Season Friendly between Rangers and Bury at Ibrox Stadium on July 6, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

A large number of Rangers supporters hope they haven’t seen the last of Serge Atakayi.

The Rangers winger was loaned to Finnish side Seinäjoen Jalkapallokerho on Thursday.

Atakayi made his debut for the Gers late last year, but in doing so suffered an injury which kept him out until March.

But many of a Rangers persuasion have not forgotten the 20-year-old and are calling for him to return at the end of his loan spell, which runs until June.

Atakayi told his loan club’s official website that a need for more game time was his motivation for leaving Rangers.

He added that he chose them over a number of rivals due to his father-son-like relationship with the manager, Alexei Eremenko.

Alexei Eremenko of Kilmarnock poses with his children after the Scottish premiership match between Kilmarnock and Ross County at Rugby Park on May 23, 2015 in Kilmarnock, Scotland.

And according to the DR Congo Under-23 international, Eremenko’s Rangers counterpart, Steven Gerrard, thinks he can play in the Gers’ senior side next season.

Atakayi enters the final year of his Ibrox contract this summer, and could face a battle for a first-team place with Jamie Murphy, Daniel Candeias, Glenn Middleton and Jordan Jones among his comepetitors.
