With some Glasgow Rangers fans believed to have Allianz Stadion home tickets, the Austrians’ announcement will surely please the Ibrox faithful.
Rapid Vienna have confirmed that they expect 10,000 Glasgow Rangers fans to descend on the Austrian capital for Thursday’s Europa League game.
The Light Blues head to Vienna needing a win to make the second round of the competition.
According to the Daily Record, just over 2,000 Ibrox faithful have got their hands on tickets for the away ends of the Allianz Stadion, including 400 for the main stand.
However, the report claims that around double that number of travelling supporters have picked up tickets to sit in the home stands.
Although the prospect of a huge number of opposition fans descending on one city for a game may cause concern for some, Rapid have decided to make the most of the occasion.
In a gesture sure to delight many Rangers fans, they have decided to set aside an area of the Allianz Stadion where Gers supporters who have tickets for the home end can safely sit together.
Andreas Marek, who is responsible for Rapid’s tickets and marketing, is quoted by the Daily Record as saying: “We are well aware Rangers supporters have bought tickets for stands around the stadium. So we have made spaces beside the away section for them to sit together and there will be no problem hopefully.
“For us there is no fear of any trouble, but of course it is a big challenge for us. Everyone here and in the city is looking forward to an awesome party.”
In addition, Rangers have urged fans without tickets to remain in Vienna’s city centre as opposed to heading to the stadium.
An official statement on the club website has asked ticketless supporters to look at following the game in bustling areas such as Scheweden Platz.
