Steven Gerrard of Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers was firm in discouraging bids for Alfredo Morelos, but nowhere near firm enough.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard managed to both encourage and discourage bids for Alfredo Morelos today.
The Colombian hitman has been the subject of an £8 million offer from Nice, according to The Scottish Sun.
Rangers won’t want to lose the striker who has ripped up the Scottish Premiership this season as Gerrard’s side look to knock Celtic off their perch come May.
And although the 38-year-old said he wasn’t going anywhere, he did admit that ‘every player has a price’.
He told a press conference, via The Scottish Sun: “At the moment, in this window Alfredo won’t be going anywhere. But every one of our players has got a price.”
The first part of that passage is exactly what Rangers fans will have wanted to hear: it’s firm and makes it clear that the 22-year-old is going nowhere, but the second part is a concern.
Gerrard has effectively told the French side – and any other club keen on Morelos – to up their bid, encouraging follow-up interest which can only be bad for the Gers.
The Blues boss was firm, but was he firm enough? If Nice come back, then evidently not.
