Barrie McKay is reportedly training with the club’s reserves after falling out of favour at Ibrox under Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha.
Rangers manger Pedro Caixinha made it clear that he wanted more from Barrie McKay before handing the winger, arguably the club’s most naturally gifted player in years, a new contract.
“What does he need to do more? He needs to be more proactive,” the Portuguese coach told the Daily Record.
“I just want players here that are keen to come or are keen to continue here and are because of the passion they feel for the club and the passion they have to win for the club.”
Questions have been asked about Barrie McKay’s commitment
However, it appears that McKay has failed to fulfil his end of the bargain. Because the Daily Mail claims that the 22-year-old has been sent to train with Rangers’ Under-20 squad, a surefire sign that he will be on his way out of Ibrox this summer.
McKay, who rejected a new contract in February before claiming a few months later that he wanted to stay, has just 12 months remaining on his current deal at Ibrox. And the repot adds that former Rangers manager Mark Warburton is keen on a reunion at Nottingham Forest.
Moving to the City Ground may be the best option available to the talented wideman as Caixinha ruthlessly swings the axe once again.
And although McKay is one of Rangers’ most valuable assets, and could be let go in a cut price deal this summer, it appears that Caixinha’s decision has the backing of the supporters.
