Glasgow Rangers played out an incredible final day game, with the Ibrox side drawing 5-5 at Easter Road.

Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to suggest that Bruno Alves may have saved his Gers career after putting in one of his best performances for the Light Blues during their bizarre final day draw with Hibs.

Jimmy Nicholl’s men knew that anything better than a six-goal defeat would have wrapped up third place, while a win coupled with an Aberdeen defeat could have seen the Light Blues go second.

Bruno Alves of Rangers arrives at the stadium prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Ranger at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

And while no-one would have expected Hibs to go and push for the victory that they needed to leap above Rangers, it appeared that something incredible may be happening with Neil Lennon’s side going 3-0 up inside 22 minutes. The Gers would score twice before the half-hour and Nicholl would then give the green light to a change that saw Alves replace a furious Sean Goss.

It was Alves however, who brought the game level with a stunning free-kick just before the break and gave Rangers the momentum to go and score twice in the second-half to take a 5-3 lead.

Hibs would show the same tenacity to get back on level terms themselves to ensure that the final day boasted the most incredible game of the season.

A general view of Ibrox Stadium is seen ahead of the EURO 2016 Qualifier match between Scotland and Georgia at Ibrox Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

It was also perhaps the day that saw Alves hint that he may have a Rangers future ahead of next season. The Scottish Sun reported in the days leading up to the game that the 36-year-old was set to be shown the door in the summer, but with plenty of work to do on the defence in the coming months – Russell Martin is only on loan, David Bates is leaving for Hamburg and Ross McCrorie’s best role has to be in midfield – perhaps keeping Alves now makes a lot more sense.

It certainly appears that a large section of the Ibrox faithful would now like to see the Portuguese stay at the club for another season after his performance against Hibs, with many suggesting that his introduction changed the game.
