Rangers are seeking a new manager after seeing Steven Gerrard leave for Aston Villa – and Giovanni van Bronckhorst allegedly wants the job.

The Gers today confirmed that Gerrard has left the club to take over at Aston Villa.

Rangers can’t have expected to be in this position a week ago and now need to scramble to find a replacement.

One of the top names in the mix is Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who is keen on the job according to The Scottish Sun and Vital Rangers.

Van Bronckhorst, 46, spent three years with Rangers in his playing days, bagging 22 goals in 117 games whilst winning two titles.

Since becoming a manager, Van Bronckhorst has won an Eredivisie title against all odds with Feyenoord.

Van Bronckhorst also won two domestic cups in Rotterdam, winning 61% of his games in charge.

Now available after leaving Chinese side Guanghzou R&F in December 2020, Van Bronckhorst could return to Ibrox.

Rangers fans react to Van Bronckhorst rumours

Rangers fans have been taking to Twitter with real excitement about Van Bronckhorst.

Some think that Van Bronckhorst is an upgrade on Gerrard anyway, asking ‘Steven who?’ as they get excited about their potential new boss.

Others think that it’s a ‘no brainer’ to get Van Bronckhorst in if he wants the job.

Rangers fans are begging the club to land Van Bronckhorst, claiming he is the ‘obvious choice’.
