The Rangers midfielder has won just two national team caps, and none since Steven Gerrard took the reins at Ibrox.

A number of Rangers fans are struggling to believe that Scotland have once again called up Sheffield Wednesday’s Barry Bannan ahead of the Gers’ Ryan Jack.
Jack has been a key member of a Rangers side that currently sits second in the Scottish Premiership standings and looked to most likely Ibrox player to feature in Alex McLeish’s latest national team squad, after Allan McGregor announced his international retirement on Monday.
But the former Rangers manager has failed to select a single one of his former club’s players, although ex-Gers John Fleck and David Bates are included.
Instead, a number of English Championship players have made the cut, as well as Celtic’s Lewis Morgan, who is currently on loan at third tier Sunderland.

But it is the presence of Bannan, who is having his best ever season in Sheffield Wednesday colours (nine goals or assists), that appears to have most irked those of a Rangers persuasion.
One wonders if the midfielder’s Celtic allegiance might have something to do with it?

Not one @RangersFC player in the squad. As I said before every Scottish Rangers player should retire from international football. In what world is Barry ******* bannan better than Ryan Jack. Scotland can **** right off !!!!!

Barry Bannan over Ryan Jack man, ye wonder why ***** don’t watch us anymore.
Bannan’s Sheffield Wednesday teammate Liam Palmer has earned his first ever call up, although another Owl Steven Fletcher misses out.
Is Jack’s omission a bad thing for Rangers?
